Tales of Tricksters and Vagabonds Comes to the Stage — Four-City Canadian Tour This Fall

Tales of Tricksters and Vagabonds tour poster

This fall, Mike Herriott brings his acclaimed Tales of Tricksters and Vagabonds suite to the stage for the first time — six world-premiere performances across Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montréal, running September 28 through October 24, 2026.

Built on Herriott’s 2023 album of the same name, the suite is a programmatic work for brass and rhythm section (no saxophones) that brings six unforgettable literary and folkloric characters to life — from the scheming cat of Puss in Boots to Shakespeare’s Mercutio to Falstaff himself. The concept was developed with cellist Ofra Harnoy, Herriott’s wife and co-owner of H&H Records, who joins the tour as co-producer.

Each show pairs the new suite with highlights from Herriott’s earlier album Isn’t Life Grand, including the tender Sweet Sparky Suite. True to Herriott’s roots, every stop features locally hired musicians, with drummer Jacob Slous as a constant presence across the tour. He’ll also lead masterclasses at post-secondary schools in each city.

“These characters have lived in my mind for years — they’re universal archetypes, part of the human experience itself. Bringing this music from the studio to the stage is always a great joy,” says Herriott.
